Sean Macdermott

Sean Macdermott serves as the Chief Instrument Flight Instructor for the Aviation Flight Technology program within the College of Technology at Vincennes University, a position he has held since 2014.

He earned dual degrees in Aviation Flight and Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University in 2012.

His expertise centers on advanced instrument flight training and aviation operations, informed by extensive practical experience. As a US Army veteran with 10 years of service in the Illinois Army National Guard—including two combat deployments to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom—he integrates military precision and real-world operational knowledge into his instructional methodology. His teaching emphasizes safety-critical procedures and decision-making in complex flight environments.

Mr. Macdermott trains students in flight simulation and live aircraft operations within the Aviation Flight Technology curriculum, focusing on instrument rating certification and professional pilot development. His military background provides unique context for emergency response training and crew resource management.
