Sean Gao is the Trustees Distinguished Professor of Music and Violin at the University of Delaware’s School of Music within the College of Arts & Sciences. He is a globally renowned violinist, composer, and educator, known for his virtuoso performances and contributions to cultural exchange through music. As founding director of the Master Players Concert Series, he leads a flagship arts presenting organization in the Mid-Atlantic region. He is also the creator and director of 6-WIRE, a jazz-world music ensemble and UD Ensemble-in-Residence since 2010.

His notable works include the musical Shanghai Sonatas, blending theatre and classical music to tell the story of Jewish refugees in Shanghai, and The Mountains are Calling, a National Parks music video project. Prof. Gao’s research and creative work focus on attracting new audiences to classical music through innovative productions and cultural collaborations. He performs on a rare 1794 G.B. Ceruti violin provided by the University of Delaware.
