About
Sean Forrester is Associate Professor of Biology and Associate Dean in the Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech University. He holds a BSc in Biology from Cape Breton University (1995), MSc in Biology and Parasitology from Lakehead University (1997), and PhD in Parasitology from McGill University (2003). His research focuses on neurotransmitter receptors in parasitic nematodes and developing drug targets for tropical diseases.
Research areas include:
- Molecular pharmacology of nematode neurotransmitter receptors
- Anthelmintic drug mechanisms and resistance
- Ion channel function in parasitic organisms
His extensive publication record demonstrates consistent investigation into parasite neurobiology, particularly GABA and acetylcholine receptors in Haemonchus contortus. Recent work emphasizes receptor characterization, molecular dynamics, and novel drug targets.
Professor Forrester teaches Cell Biology (BIOL2030) and Principles of Pharmacology and Toxicology (BIOL3020), and has previously served as Director of the Applied Bioscience Graduate Program and Undergraduate Program Director of Biological Sciences.
