Sean Carroll

Sean Carroll is a Lecturer and Researcher at Munster Technological University (MTU), affiliated with the Sustainable Infrastructure Research & Innovation Group (SIRIG). He holds Chartered Engineer status (CEng) and qualifications including an MEng in Structural Engineering. His research focuses on structural testing, FEA analysis, BIM, and disruptive technologies in construction. He coordinates the BSc (Hons) in Building Information Modelling and Management.

Research Interests: Sean’s work spans structural engineering innovation, digital construction methodologies, and sustainability. He leads projects like Drones4VET (EU-funded), developing drone-based construction curricula. His expertise includes modular construction systems, FEA analysis of novel structural components, and BIM automation through visual scripting.

Publications & Projects: Recent works address soil phosphorus balance deficits, recycling-derived fertilizers, and automation in structural design. His 2021 paper on visual scripting for design automation won the CitA BIM Gathering’s Best Academic Paper award.

Grants & Collaborations: Lead researcher on the Erasmus+ funded Drones4VET project. Active contributor to MTU’s SIRIG group, focusing on sustainable infrastructure and emerging technologies.
