Sean Butcher

Dr. Sean Butcher is a Lecturer in Criminal Justice at the University of Leeds' School of Law (Faculty of Social Sciences). He serves as Director of Undergraduate Admissions for the School of Law. His expertise spans police studies, law and order politicisation, and media representations of justice. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Leeds and has held teaching roles since 2011. Professional memberships include the British Society of Criminology and Higher Education Academy.

Research focuses on plural policing models, multi-agency safeguarding hubs, and ethnographic crime studies. He completed an NIHR-funded fellowship examining information-sharing in MASHs. Teaching responsibilities include modules on crime theories, justice frameworks, and research methods across undergraduate/postgraduate programs. Currently coordinates key modules for BA Criminal Justice and Criminology, MSc/LLM programs.

Advisory roles include external examining at Liverpool John Moores University and mentoring junior staff. Research affiliations with the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies and Centre for Innovation and Research in Legal Education.
