Dr. Sean P. Barrett was a Professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Dalhousie University, affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry. He held a BA/BSc from St. Francis Xavier University and a PhD from McGill University. His research focused on addiction neuroscience, clinical psychology, and substance use disorders, particularly examining pharmacological and non-pharmacological factors influencing addictive behaviors.
Dr. Barrett’s work emphasized understanding individual differences in addiction, with notable contributions to studies on cannabis, caffeine, nicotine, and tobacco. He received prestigious awards, including the 2013 Faculty of Science Killam Prize and the 2018 Nova Scotia Tobacco Control Research Excellence Award. He led the Substance Use and Addictions Lab, collaborating widely to advance addiction research. Tragically, he passed away in June 2024, but his legacy continues through his impactful scholarship and mentorship.
