Scotty Hardwig is an Assistant Professor in Movement, Performance, and Integrated Media at Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts within the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design. His work bridges contemporary dance, digital media, and experimental performance. He holds an MFA from the University of Utah's School of Dance and a BA from the University of Virginia.
Research focuses on movement-based art through live performance, installation, and cinematic frameworks, leveraging motion capture, virtual reality, and immersive sound. Notable projects include Body, Full of Time (2019) and Time Garden (2019–2020), supported by Virginia Tech’s Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT). His choreographic practice is collaborative, queer, and experimental, exploring existential themes in the human body’s motion.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on dance technique, history, anatomy, and improvisation. As a performer, he collaborates with companies like AXIS Dance and LEVYdance, and his videodance works screen globally.
