Scott Trudell

Scott Trudell is an Associate Professor of English and Affiliate Faculty in the School of Music at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). He serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies in the English Department, focusing on fostering community in virtual learning environments and innovative teaching methods. His research bridges Early Modern Studies, Media Studies, and Performance Theory, emphasizing vocal music’s role in Renaissance poetic and theatrical cultures. Key contributions include Unwritten Poetry (2019), winner of the Roland H. Bainton Prize, and collaborative digital projects like Early Modern Songscapes.

Trudell’s work explores intersections of media, sound, and performance, with publications in PMLA, Renaissance Studies, and Shakespeare Quarterly. His current project, Trans Child Performance in the Time of Shakespeare, examines child performers’ roles in questioning gender binaries and mediating cultural identity. He actively participates in interdisciplinary conferences and serves on editorial boards, including a special issue of Restoration on intermedia dynamics.

Award-winning scholar and educator, Trudell’s teaching integrates digital storytelling, creative writing, and collaborations with incarcerated students via the Goucher Prison Education Partnership. His research extends to LGBTQ studies, trans studies, and the digital humanities, with ongoing projects addressing acoustic historiography and early modern performance archives.
