Scott Thompson Smith is an Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on legal and literary discourses in early medieval England, rhetorical ornament in vernacular/Latin writing, and comics studies. He holds a PhD from the University of Notre Dame (2007), MA from Western Michigan University (2001), and BA from Truman State University (1992).

His monograph Land and Book: Literature and Land Tenure in Anglo-Saxon England (2012) explores intersections between legal systems and literary production. Recent articles appear in JEGP, Anglo-Saxon England, and Modern Philology. He contributes to Graphic Medicine, an interdisciplinary comics studies series from PSU Press.
Teaching emphases include medieval literature, language history, graphic novels, and supernatural/horror genres.
