Scott Schwartz is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the College of Fine and Applied Arts and the Department of Musicology. Research Focus
Scott specializes in preserving America's music heritage, with emphasis on American popular music and the unique musical traditions of Appalachian serpent-handling communities in rural Kentucky. His work bridges archival practices with cultural anthropology, ensuring the documentation of endangered musical practices and historical narratives.
Teaching
In Fall 2025, he teaches courses on archival materials administration (IS562AC), cultural heritage collections (IS573CHO), and offers independent study (IS589SWS). Office hours are available Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., or by appointment.
