About
Scott R. Daly is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa. His research focuses on coordination chemistry and ligand design to address fundamental questions in electrochemical CO2 reduction, small molecule transformations, nuclear separations, and sensing.
- Education: BS from North Central College, PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Seaborg Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National Lab
Research Interests: The Daly Group develops new ligands for transition metal and f-element complexes, utilizing techniques like multi-nuclear NMR, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Key projects include:
- Transition metal complexes with non-innocent ligands
- XAS studies of transition metal complexes with diphosphorus ligands
- Synthesis of lanthanide and actinide borohydride complexes
Recent Research Trends: Publications emphasize uranium/lanthanide reactivity comparisons, ligand-centered borenium ions for catalysis, fluorination resistance in platinum complexes, and structural flexibility of SBS ligands with Rh/Ir.
