Scott Powers

Scott Powers is a Professor of French in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Mary Washington (UMW). His office is located in Combs Hall, Room 225, and he can be contacted at spowers@umw.edu.

Professor Powers specializes in Quebecois and Canadian literature, with research foci on ecofeminism, animal studies, secularization theory, and ethical dimensions of human-animal relationships in contemporary fiction. His recent work examines intersections of violence, veganism, and environmental ethics in Québécois novels.

His publications include analyses of authors like Gaétan Soucy and Jean-François Beauchemin, with trends in his work focusing on postmodern narrative structures, multiversal frameworks, and critical animal studies. Professor Powers also engages in interdisciplinary approaches blending literary theory with cultural and philosophical studies.
