Dr. Scott Neilsen is an Associate Professor at Memorial University, cross-appointed to the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies and the Department of Archaeology. He coordinates the Certificate in Indigenous Studies and leads the Sheshatshiu Archaeology Project and Birch Island Archaeological Project in Labrador. His research focuses on Indigenous archaeology, decolonization, cultural resource management, and community heritage.

Dr. Neilsen established the Laboratory for Applied Archaeological Research and Community Heritage (LARCH), an interdisciplinary lab supporting Indigenous communities and organizations in managing cultural resources. His work bridges applied archaeology with critical theory and digital methodologies. Current research explores the intersection of Indigenous knowledge, repatriation, and co-management of cultural and natural resources in Newfoundland and Labrador.
He supervises graduate students on topics such as museum representation of Indigenous cultures, community archaeology practices, and colonial waste legacies in Labrador. Contact: scott.neilsen@mun.ca.
