Scott McWaters is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at The University of Alabama, where he has served since 2002. He holds a BS in Secondary Education Language Arts from The University of Alabama and an MFA in Fiction from the University of Memphis. His teaching excellence has earned him three finalist nominations for the University’s Last Lecture Award and the department’s Outstanding Teaching Award.
In addition to his primary role, McWaters teaches a course in the Honors College each semester, focusing on Dante in the fall and William Blake in the spring. His research interests span Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, Literature (with specialties in African-American, Early American, Late American, and Postcolonial studies), and Digital Humanities.
His notable publication includes the novel Tuskaloosa Kills (Spork Press, 2018), which explores themes intersecting historical narratives and contemporary cultural critique.
