About
Dr. Scott Johnstone is an Honorary Lecturer in the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on vascular biology, cellular communication via connexins and pannexins, and their roles in hypertension, inflammation, and cancer. He has contributed to over 28 peer-reviewed publications, including studies on connexin post-translational modifications, pannexin-mediated inflammation, and HPV-driven Cx43 dysregulation in cervical tumors.
Key research interests include: connexin trafficking mechanisms, pannexin channel functions in leukocyte emigration, and the interplay between nitric oxide signaling and gap junctions. His work spans basic vascular physiology, hypertension pathophysiology, and translational studies on connexin-based therapeutic targets.
Dr. Johnstone co-edited the 2016 Gap Junction Protocols volume and has secured grants such as the Carnegie Trust-funded project on Connexin 43 as a therapeutic target. His collaborative efforts include studies on oxidative stress effects on vascular connexins and MAPK-driven smooth muscle proliferation mechanisms.
