About
Scott Haydn Soderling is the George Barth Geller Distinguished Professor of Molecular Biology and Chair of the Department of Cell Biology at Duke University. He holds concurrent appointments in Neurobiology and is a member of the Duke Cancer Institute and Duke Institute for Brain Sciences.
- Ph.D. from University of Washington (1999)
Research Interests focus on synaptic biology, neurogenetics, and cytoskeletal dynamics in neurodevelopmental disorders. His work bridges molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity with translational studies of conditions like autism, epilepsy-aphasia syndrome, and schizophrenia.
Recent Publications highlight tripartite synaptomics, actin regulation in synapses, and chemico-genetic tools to map astrocyte-neuron interactions. Key themes include:
- Synaptic proteomics in neurological diseases
- Ciliary signaling pathways
- WASHC4 and lysosomal dysfunction
- CRISPR-based cell fate engineering
Scientific Awards include Duke University's 2020 University Distinguished Professorship and funding from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, National Institutes of Health, and HHMI.
Grants (2024-2029) cover topics like neurobiology training, chromatin dysregulation in neurodevelopmental disorders, and proteomic analysis of presynaptic physiology. He mentors programs in biomedical sciences and neuroscience.
