Scott Fleming

Scott Fleming is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Computer Science at the University of Memphis. He joined the department in Fall 2011 and has held faculty roles in software engineering education and research.

His research focuses on advancing understanding of computer programming and software development through tools addressing challenges in code navigation, end-user programming, peer code reviews, and novice programmer education. Key areas include Computer Science Education, Software Engineering, and Human-Computer Interaction.

Dr. Fleming’s work has been published in venues like ACM CHI, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering (TSE), and ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (TOSEM). He has received multiple best paper awards, including the ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Award.

At the University of Memphis, he teaches foundational and practical software engineering courses using modern development tools. His research is supported by the National Science Foundation and industry partners such as National Instruments and ABB.
