Scott Decker

Dr. Scott Decker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Carolina, affiliated with the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Ball State University (2001) with specialization in neuropsychology and research methodology. His professional experience includes roles at Riverside Publishing as a neuropsychological test developer, adjunct teaching positions at Roosevelt University and Georgia State University, and clinical work at the University of Illinois at Chicago Neuropsychiatric Institute.

Dr. Decker's research focuses on neuropsychological assessment, quantitative EEG (QEEG) measures, diagnostic decision-making, and evolutionary psychology. He has developed assessment tools such as the Carolina Automated Reading Evaluation and contributed to major projects like the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities. His work emphasizes translating neuroscientific findings into educational and clinical practices, including workshops for school districts on neuropsychological assessment.

His recent publications (2021–2024) address topics like neuropsychological outcomes in concussion patients, neurocognitive predictors of reading fluency, and EEG-based interventions for learning disabilities. He currently directs the Applied Cognitive Neuropsychology Lab and is actively recruiting students for doctoral research.

Dr. Decker has served on editorial boards for academic journals, reviewed cognitive assessments like the WJ-III, and published extensively on topics ranging from ADHD neurophysiology to cross-cultural validity of neuropsychological tests. His grants and collaborations span institutions including China's HIV-affected child resilience programs and primate cognition studies at the Language Research Center.
