Scott D. Halpern, MD, PhD, MBE, is the John M. Eisenberg Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology, and Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania.

Research Interests: Combines empirical epidemiology, health services research, and moral philosophy to address three key areas:
- Allocation of scarce healthcare resources (ICU beds, organ transplants)
- Behavioral economics in end-of-life decision-making
- Improving RCT ethics and efficiency through patient-centered outcomes
Scientific Contributions: 15+ publications spanning mechanical ventilation validation, ICU organizational practices, and organ allocation ethics. Recipient of the Greenwall Foundation Faculty Scholar Award in Bioethics.
Grant Funding: Research supported by NIH Institutes (NHLBI, NIGMS), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and American Thoracic Society.
