Scott Bernhard is an Associate Professor of Architecture and Associate Dean for Academics at Tulane University's School of Architecture. He has been a faculty member since 1990 and previously served as Interim Dean and Director of the Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design (2007–2012). A licensed architect, he leads a design practice focused on New Orleans' climate and context, with over a dozen built projects earning AIA awards. His teaching spans studio and seminar courses on multi-family housing, and he has received numerous university-wide teaching accolades.
Education: B.E.D from Miami University and M.Arch from Rice University. Current research explores urban fabric complexities, architecture's role in social entrepreneurship, and community dynamics in raised dwellings. His work integrates ecological design principles with New Orleans' unique urban challenges.
Professional Practice: Principal of a research/design firm emphasizing climate-responsive architecture in New Orleans. Publications: Books and chapters on post-Katrina urban innovation, design education, and interstitial urban space. Labs/Initiatives: Tulane City Center, Small Center for Collaborative Design.
