About
Scott B. Snapper is Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and serves as Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Boston Children's Hospital. His primary affiliations include Harvard University and Boston Children's Hospital, where he directs the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center.
Dr. Snapper completed his undergraduate education at Tufts University, followed by MD and PhD degrees from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His residency was at Brigham and Women's Hospital, with fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
His research focuses on mucosal immunology and host-microbial interactions in gastrointestinal health, with emphasis on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and primary immunodeficiencies. Key projects include the Roadmap to Cure of Early Childhood IBD and the NEOPICS international consortium, which aims to understand genetic determinants of very early-onset IBD.
Recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate trends in transcriptomic analysis of IBD, viral triggers of Crohn's disease, and genomic approaches to rare pediatric diseases. These works reflect interdisciplinary approaches combining immunology, genomics, and clinical medicine.
Dr. Snapper leads the Snapper Laboratory with multiple team members including postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research technicians. The lab employs basic, translational, and clinical research strategies to investigate intestinal homeostasis mechanisms.
