About
Saurav Datta is an Assistant Professor at the Amgen Bioprocessing Center, Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences, Keck Graduate Institute (KGI). He holds a PhD from the University of Kentucky and prior academic roles at IIT Roorkee and Argonne National Laboratory. His research focuses on biopharmaceutical processing, including viral vector production, plasmid DNA purification, exosome manufacturing, and membrane-based bioprocesses. Collaborations include Cytiva, Celltheon, and Prof. Ghosh’s lab for exosome purification.
Education: PhD in Chemical & Materials Engineering (University of Kentucky), MS and BS in Chemical Engineering (IIT Kanpur, University of Calcutta). Professional experience spans postdoctoral work at Argonne National Laboratory and industry roles in membrane technology.
Research emphasizes scalable bioprocesses for gene therapies, DNA vaccines, and exosome therapeutics. Key areas include PAT (Process Analytical Technology), process modeling, and bioseparations. His team develops novel membrane systems for enhanced purification efficiency and economic feasibility.
Patents include virus recovery membranes, MFG isolation processes, and CO₂ capture technologies. Over 30 publications span viral vector optimization, exosome production scaling, and lignocellulosic biomass processing.
Current projects involve perfusion-based mAb manufacturing, AAV purification with Cytiva, and exosome production via mesenchymal stem cells. His work bridges chemical engineering principles with biotechnology for industrial-scale solutions.
