Professor Saul Becker serves as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Health and Education and Founding Director of the Institute for Children's Futures at Manchester Metropolitan University. Previously, he held professorial roles at Cambridge, Sussex, Birmingham, Nottingham, and Loughborough Universities. A globally recognized authority on young carers, he has pioneered research, policy, and practice in this field for over 30 years. His work focuses on mental health, policy responses, and cross-national studies of adolescents providing care to family members or peers.
He has authored 18 books, published 570 works, and secured 56 research awards. His research emphasizes ethical pan-European studies, psychosocial interventions, and salutogenic approaches to support young carers. He advises governments and international organizations, including the Carers Trust and the Princess Royal’s Respite Fund for Carers.
