Sasha Sabherwal

Sasha Sabherwal is an Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Global Asian Studies at Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities. She specializes in the South Asian diaspora, focusing on critical ethnic studies, caste and race intersections, and transnational gender and sexuality studies.

Her research examines caste dynamics in the Punjabi Sikh diaspora across the United States and Canada, particularly how caste hierarchies are remade in diasporic contexts. She is currently completing her first book, Cartographies of Caste in the Punjabi Sikh Diaspora of the Transnational Pacific Northwest, which traces the evolution of caste identities in transnational spaces.

Her recent publications explore topics such as caste masculinities, postcolonial state security, and feminist resistance in South Asia and its diasporas. Her work appears in journals like Journal of Asian American Studies, Social Text, and Sikh Formations.
