Professor Saroja Selvanathan is a Professor of Econometrics at Griffith University's Griffith Business School and a visiting Professor at the Madras School of Economics, Chennai, India. She serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy. Her research focuses on consumer demand, tourism analysis, applied econometrics, and time series modeling. She holds a PhD in Quantitative Economics from the University of Western Australia.
Professor Selvanathan has received multiple awards, including the Vice Chancellor’s Research Excellence Award (2019) and Griffith Awards for Excellence in Teaching (2011, 2005). She leads funded research initiatives such as Policy Capacity Building in the Digital Economy (2024–2025) and has supervised over 20 doctoral students.
Her work spans economic policy analysis, development economics, and tourism forecasting. Key research outputs include studies on financial asset demand in Sri Lanka, gender disparities in energy use, and the impact of Australia-China relations on tourism demand.
She actively contributes to Griffith Asia Institute and collaborates internationally, addressing issues like South Asian economic development and digital inequality. Her teaching expertise includes econometrics, statistical methods, and business data analysis.
