He holds adjunct faculty status at the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics (IACM) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) since 2019. His roles include Graduate Studies Director of the Inter-institutional Graduate Program in Oceanography and Management of the Marine Environment, and coordination of the Mediterranean Operational Network for the Global Ocean Observing System (MONGOOS) Ocean Modeling Working Group.
Education: B.Sc. in Physics (NKUA, 1994); Ph.D. in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography (University of Miami, 2000). Early career included postdoctoral research at NKUA, UM, and the Institute of Accelerating Systems and Applications, leading projects as a principal investigator.
Research focuses on ocean dynamics, air-sea interactions in semi-enclosed basins, ocean forecasting, and climate variability. Key areas include Mediterranean and Aegean Sea circulation, biogeochemical processes, and numerical modeling of marine systems. He has authored >60 peer-reviewed publications and supervised 35 projects (PI/coordinator in 19).
Scientific contributions include advancing coupled ocean-atmosphere models, quantifying climate impacts on marine ecosystems, and developing operational systems like CYCOFOS for marine safety. Awards include the Rosenstiel Fellowship (1995).
Advancing oil spill forecasting, wave energy assessments, and integrating observational datasets for satellite validation. Leading initiatives in climate resilience and marine observing infrastructure, such as the Hellenic Marine Observing System.
