Dr. Sarah Yeomans is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, specializing in Graeco-Roman material and visual culture, ancient medicine, astronomy, and religion. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Southern California, alongside M.A. degrees in Archaeology (University of Sheffield) and Art History (USC), and a B.A. in French Literature from UC San Diego.
Her research focuses on the interplay between visual culture and environmental/climatic change during pandemics in Europe (Roman Imperial period to early 20th century), and the role of Graeco-Roman libraries in transmitting scientific knowledge to Early Modern Europe. She has conducted fieldwork across Turkey, Italy, Israel, and other Mediterranean regions.
Dr. Yeomans has been awarded prestigious fellowships including the Fulbright and NEH grants, and has researched at institutions like ARIT and the Huntington Library. She previously directed educational programs for a D.C.-based archaeological organization and taught at USC, West Virginia University, and Duquesne University’s Rome program. Her work has been featured in BBC, Live Science, and the Huffington Post.
She has extensive international experience, living in England, France, Italy, and Turkey, and appears in documentaries like “The Story of God with Morgan Freeman.”
