Associate Professor Sarah Wallace is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow (2020-24; 2025-29) and Certified Practising Speech Pathologist at The University of Queensland's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She leads the Lived Experience Lab (LexLab), the Qualitative Collective, and the Communication Research and Engagement Theme (CommRET). Her research focuses on communication disability in ageing, post-stroke aphasia, and co-designing interventions with people with lived experience. Key projects include national audit systems for aphasia services, methodological standards for aphasia research, technology-enhanced self-management tools, and training for aged care workers.
Her academic roles include Research Integrity Advisor and affiliation with the Queensland Aphasia Research Centre and Centre for Hearing Research. She leads MRFF-funded projects addressing aphasia care access, digital health equity, and aphasia treatment adherence. Over 100 publications span peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference presentations, emphasizing aphasia rehabilitation, outcome measurement, and health system improvement.
Key collaborations include the International Collaboration of Aphasia Trialists (CATs) and global studies in Vietnam. Her work integrates qualitative and participatory methods to ensure patient-centered care, with recent focus on core outcome sets (e.g., COS-PPA) and aphasia-friendly communication tools.
