Dr. Sarah Symons is a Full Professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Science at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. Her research bridges Egyptology and History of Astronomy, focusing on the interpretation of ancient Egyptian astronomical texts and instruments, and how the night sky was perceived and depicted in antiquity.
She holds a PhD in History of Astronomy from the University of Leicester, UK, and serves as the Coordinator of the award-winning Honours Integrated Science Program at McMaster, where she teaches science literacy, communication, and history of science.
Her publications include analyses of Middle Kingdom coffin lids, sundial catalogs, and frameworks for integrating research into undergraduate education. She also co-edited the volume Down to the Hour: Short Time in the Ancient Mediterranean (2019). Her work often combines interdisciplinary methodologies to decode ancient observational practices and their cultural significance.
