Professor Sarah R Brown is a Professor of Cancer Clinical Trials Methodology and Director of Early Phase Trials in the Cancer Division at the University of Leeds. She is Deputy Director of the Leeds Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit and Co-Director of the Myeloma UK Concept and Access Research Programme. Her expertise spans phase I and II clinical trials in oncology, with a focus on myeloma and radiotherapy. She holds a PhD in phase II trial design from the University of Leeds (2012), an MSc in Medical Statistics from Lancaster University, and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Hull.
Research Interests: Professor Brown specializes in novel early phase trial designs, particularly platform trials like the CONCORDE trial evaluating radiotherapy-DDRi combinations in lung cancer. She advocates for efficient methodologies to assess multiple experimental therapies simultaneously, aiming to identify optimal phase II doses.
Professional Roles: She serves on the CRUK Clinical Research Committee, Blood Cancer UK Clinical Trials Review Committee, and as faculty for the international Methods in Clinical Cancer Research workshop. She previously co-chaired the NCRI CTRad workstream 2 (early phase).
Teaching & Supervision: Co-developed the MSc in Biopharmaceutical Development's Clinical Module. Supervised one completed PhD and currently guides four PhD students researching phase I trial design and re-irradiation therapy personalization using MRI and hypoxia markers.
