Sarah Pohlschneider is a Researcher and PhD student at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), affiliated with the Centre for Remote and Rural Studies and Inverness College UHI. Her PhD, supervised by Dr. Philomena de Lima, focuses on forestry skills provision in a multifunctional context, exploring how practitioner and stakeholder perspectives can inform forestry education and recruitment strategies. Prior to moving to Scotland in 2014, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education (ESOL and Biology) from the University of Vechta, Germany.
Her research interests include career choice motivations in forestry professionals, climate change impacts on forestry practices, governance’s role in education, and curriculum development in uncertain environments. She has participated in initiatives like the 13th and 12th International Comparative Rural Policy Studies Summer Institutes (2016 and 2015) and contributed to workshops on widening engagement in forestry education.
Sarah actively represents Postgraduate Research (PGR) students at UHI, advocating for student interests. Beyond academia, she enjoys outdoor activities, roller derby with the Inverness City team, and reading Terry Pratchett’s works.
