Sarah Mirza

Sarah Mirza is Associate Professor and Department Chair of Religious Studies at the College of Wooster, with cross-appointments in Middle Eastern Studies, South Asian Studies, and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies. Her historical research examines pre-Islamic Arabia and early Islam through material culture.

Research Focus: Specializes in manuscript studies, heritage conservation, history of craftwork, and media theory. Current book project 'Rock, Leather, Wood, Skin' explores media history through shoes.

Teaching Areas: Includes Islamic origins, ancient Arabian religions, Iranian history/cinema, materiality studies, and decolonizing fashion.

Education: Ph.D. (2010) and M.A. (2004) from University of Michigan, B.A. from William Paterson University (2000).
