About
Sarah Marshall is a Professor of Art specializing in Printmaking at the University of Alabama. She joined the faculty in 2000 and holds an MFA from the University of Iowa (1999). Her work explores the interplay between sensory experiences and human thought, utilizing plant forms, animal figures, manipulated text, and layered imagery to bridge the physical and conceptual worlds. Her prints have been featured in national and international exhibitions, including the Global Matrix and Minnesota National Print Biennial.
Marshall has organized exhibitions in collaboration with Cuba’s Instituto Superior de Arte and presented lectures at institutions like the College Art Association and West Virginia University. Her solo exhibitions include shows in Alabama, Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Her artistic practice emphasizes repetition and variation, often creating families of related images rather than traditional editions.
Recent exhibitions include Exquisite Disorientation (2022) and Sarah Marshall (2020 solo exhibition). She has curated projects and participated in invitational shows, reflecting her engagement with both academic and public art spaces. Her work interrogates themes of memory, belief, and human cognition through visual abstraction and layered narratives.
