Dr. Sarah Larney is an Associate Professor at the University of Montreal and an adjunct Senior Lecturer at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) within the Faculty of Medicine & Health at the University of New South Wales. Her work spans epidemiology, public health, and substance abuse research.
Her research focuses on the epidemiology of injecting drug use, including associated harms such as HIV and hepatitis infections, bacterial infections, and injecting injuries. She also investigates opioid use disorder treatment and methamphetamine-related health problems, aiming to improve prevention strategies and develop interventions for neglected harms like skin infections.
Current projects include global systematic reviews on injecting drug use prevalence and HIV prevention coverage (funded by WHO, UNAIDS, UNODC, Open Society Foundations, and Global Fund), as well as a naloxone feasibility study in NSW.
