Dr. Sarah Kulzer is an Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Shenandoah University's College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD from Old Dominion University where she also received an MA in Applied Sociology and a BS in Criminal Justice.
Research Focus: Her scholarship critically examines state crime, social inequality, and forced migration through frameworks of structural violence and power dynamics. Recent publications analyze environmental racism in energy projects, neoliberal violence, refugee visa programs, and Middle Eastern security politics.
Awards & Recognition: Kulzer received the 2020 Critical Criminology Outstanding Graduate Paper Award, Old Dominion's 2019 Teaching Excellence Award, and multiple research grants. She actively engages in refugee resettlement work and integrates social justice advocacy into her teaching philosophy.
