Sarah Kuborn

Sarah Kuborn is an Associate Professor and Interim Chair in the Department of Child & Family Studies within the College of Education, Health, and Human Studies at Southeast Missouri State University. She is a certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) with expertise in gender and sexuality education.

Her academic background includes undergraduate studies in psychology, sociology, and religious studies, followed by a Ph.D. from Kansas State University with a graduate certificate in gender, women, and sexuality studies.

Dr. Kuborn's research centers on gender and sexuality education, family life education, and human sexuality, exploring critical areas such as parent-child sexual communication, distinctions between family life and sexuality education fields, and juvenile justice models. Her work employs feminist pedagogy and strengths-based frameworks to address contemporary family dynamics.

Her scholarly contributions have earned significant recognition:

Dr. Kuborn actively mentors undergraduate researchers through the McNair Scholars Program, guiding students in research design and graduate applications with presentations at national conferences. She holds leadership roles on the Certified Family Life Education Academic Review Committee and as Chair-Elect for the Family and Community Education section of the National Council on Family Relations.

Outside academia, she enjoys bowling, trivia nights, puzzles, and family time with Daniel and Luna.
