About
Sarah Kirkpatrick is Professor of Climate Science at ANU's Fenner School, specializing in heatwave dynamics, climate extremes attribution, and human health impacts. Deputy Director for Communications at ARC Centre for 21st Century Weather and Chief Investigator at ARC Centre for Climate Extremes.
Holds BSc from Macquarie University and PhD from UNSW Sydney. Research examines heatwave mechanisms, marine heatwaves, and extreme event attribution using climate models. Current projects include physiologically-relevant heat metrics for vulnerable populations and heat extremes in net-zero scenarios.
Honors include Dorothy Hill Medal (2021), AMOS Communication Award (2021), and consecutive Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher designations. Science communication partnerships include Monash Climate Change Communication Hub. Leads NESP Climate Systems Hub research on climate attribution frameworks.
Teaches advanced climate science and mentors graduate researchers in extreme event analysis. Editorial contributions to major climate journals and leadership roles within Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society.
