Sarah Frederick is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in Japanese and Comparative Literature at Boston University, teaching courses in Japanese literature, film, and popular culture.
Research Focus: 20th-century Japanese literature, gender and media relationships, travel literature, and digital humanities. Key projects include analyzing Yoshiya Nobuko's works and co-developing the Mapping Kyoto DH project.
Key Publications: Turning Pages (University of Hawaii Press, 2006), translated works of Yoshiya Nobuko, and articles in positions: East Asian Cultures Critique, US Japan Women’s Journal, and Japan Forum.
Awards: NEH, Fulbright-Hays, Javits, Hakuho, BU Center for the Humanities, Japanese Ministry of Education, BFRI/MEXT Collaborative Fellowship.
