Associate Professor · Cell Biomechanics
Florida Atlantic University - Boca RatonAbout
Sarah E. Du is an Associate Professor at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), jointly appointed in the Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Her research focuses on microfluidics and biosensors for cell biology and medicine, integrating engineering and materials science to study cellular microenvironments. She leads the Bio-FluidicMEMS lab, developing technologies for disease modeling and clinical diagnostics.
Education: Ph.D. from Stevens Institute of Technology.
Research Interests: Cell biomechanics, microfluidic biosensors, in vitro disease models, and point-of-care diagnostics. Her team’s work includes multiphysics simulations for malaria detection and sickle cell disease assessment, resulting in a U.S. patent. Recent student achievements include Mustafa Ayanoglu’s PhD defense on Plasmodium falciparum detection and Ola’s thesis on dielectrophoresis enrichment.
Scientific Recognition: Awards include the Best Poster Award (2024) and travel grants to IMECE. Students Lili and Mustafa have received notable recognitions.
Lab & Teams: The Bio-FluidicMEMS lab collaborates on multiphysics simulation, microfluidic chip design, and clinical applications. Key projects involve portable diagnostic tools and biosensor integration for healthcare.
