Sarah Craig

Sarah Craig is a Clinical Professor at the University of Virginia School of Nursing since 2014. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Virginia, complemented by a post-graduate certificate in Nursing Education from Johns Hopkins University. Her career spans clinical practice in intensive care units, clinical nursing specialization in cardiothoracic surgery, and academic roles including clinical instructor and graduate teaching assistant.

Her research focuses on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), particularly the role of simulation in enhancing nursing education. She also engages in historical inquiry into nursing’s professionalization, with emphasis on industrial nursing in early 20th-century textile mill communities. Notable awards include the 2022 All-UVA Teaching Award and the Eleanor Crowder Bjoring Center appointment for nursing historical research (2014–2020).

Craig’s teaching spans foundational nursing courses to advanced clinical practice, with a focus on acute and critical care. She has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, exploring topics like simulation methodologies, historical nursing practices, and tobacco cessation in clinical settings. Her service includes leadership roles in the SON Faculty Organization, American Association of the History of Nurses, and the Virginia Nurses Association.
