About
Sarah Codd is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Montana State University and co-director of the Magnetic Resonance Microscopy (MRM) laboratory. Her research focuses on advanced MRI techniques applied to biofilms, porous media, fluid dynamics, and material science. She has held international research positions before joining MSU in 2002. Her work bridges engineering, biology, and physics, with applications in environmental science, biomedical systems, and energy storage.
Research interests include biofilm EPS characterization, supercritical fluid dynamics, and NMR-based studies of phase transitions and material properties. Notable contributions include low-field NMR techniques for subsurface biofilm detection and MRI analysis of aerobic granular sludge. She is affiliated with the Center for Biofilm Engineering and has been featured in MSU News for her work in women in engineering.
Her lab's innovations span from biofilm imaging to capillary pressure sensors and carbon sequestration studies. While no explicit awards are listed, her impactful contributions are highlighted through interdisciplinary collaboration and technology development.
