Sarah Chute

Sarah Chute is a PhD student and Course Instructor at the University of Toronto's Department of History, specializing in the history of enslavement in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century North America. She is affiliated with the Downtown Toronto (St. George) campus.

• Research Focus: Enslavement in the Maritimes, transnational free and forced migration, trade networks, and connections between Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and the British Caribbean.
• Education: MA from the University of Vermont, BA from Western Washington University.

Her recent publications examine biographical connections of enslaved people across the Atlantic world. She has received graduate scholarships, including the 2026 Jeanne Armour Graduate Scholarship and the 2024 Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral.
