Sarah Carr-Locke is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University (SFU) and a Research Associate with the Aurora Research Institute. She holds a PhD in Archaeology from SFU (2015), an MA in Indigenous Community-Based Archaeology from the University of Northern British Columbia, and a BA in Native Studies and Anthropology from Trent University. Since 2014, she has served as Director of the Northwest Territories’ Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre museum and the Culture and Heritage Division for the territorial government. Her professional interests center on Indigenous rights in heritage management, ethical archaeological practices, and amplifying Indigenous representation in museums.
In her leadership roles, Sarah oversees museum operations, NWT archives, territorial archaeology programs, geographic place names initiatives, and culture/arts funding. Her career bridges academic research and applied heritage governance, emphasizing decolonial approaches to cultural stewardship.
