Sara Silverstein

Sara Silverstein is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Connecticut's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Yale University (2016), an M.Phil. from Oxford University (2009), and an A.B. from Dartmouth College (2007). Her research focuses on internationalism, human rights, global health, migration/refugee rights, and modern European political history.

Key areas of expertise include the origins of universal healthcare in international society, statelessness, and the politics of migrant rights. Current projects explore doctors' roles as diplomats in shaping post-WWI health systems and the historical roots of statelessness. She has held fellowships at Sciences Po Paris, the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, and the Yale Jackson Institute for Global Affairs.

Her scholarly work has been published in Contemporary European History and edited volumes on the League of Nations. She received the World Historical Association Dissertation Prize in 2017 and contributes commentary on global human rights issues, including a 2018 Washington Post op-ed on U.S. withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council.
