Sara Moncada (Yaqui/Irish) is an adjunct professor of American Indian Studies at San Francisco State University and CEO of The Cultural Conservancy, a native-led non-profit focused on Indigenous rights and revitalization. She holds an M.A. in Humanities from Dominican University of California, with emphases in religion, ecology, and traditional arts. Her work bridges Indigenous knowledge systems, cultural arts, traditional ecological knowledge, and biocultural diversity.
Her research interests include Native religious/spiritual systems, traditional land practices, and cultural arts advocacy. Notable projects include co-authoring The Dance of Caring and producing the documentary NURSES If Florence Could See Us Now. She is also executive producer of the podcast series The Native Seed Pod.
Moncada's publications explore topics like Native Foodways, traditional ecological knowledge, and Indigenous identity. She has presented nationally/internationally on these themes, with works featured in Te Kaharoa, Langscape Magazine, and Domestic Scholar.
She serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone, American Indian Cultural District San Francisco, and Dominican University's Indigenous Partnership Advisory Council. In 2021, she was a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts.
Teaching focuses include World Religions, American Indian Music/Dance, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and Cultural Foodways. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to Indigenous studies, combining academic research with cultural practice and community advocacy.
