Sara Luly

Sara Luly, an Associate Professor at the Kansas State University Department of Modern Languages, is a leading scholar in German Romanticism, Gothic literature, and gender studies. She serves as the Director of the University Honors Program and explores intersections of mental health theories, women’s writing, and 19th-century German fiction.

Her research focuses on German Gothic interiority, haunting as narrative device, and gendered dimensions of authorship, often analyzing works by Caroline de la Motte Fouqué and Sophie Albrecht.

Notable publication themes include animal magnetism, psychosomatic theories, and hauntings in women’s literature. She teaches graduate courses on Old German Script, German Gothic literature, and E.T.A. Hoffmann, alongside honors seminars bridging Arts & Science divisions.
