Sara Kalm is an Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, Lund University. She serves as Assistant Head of Department for Doctoral Studies and Director of Third Cycle Studies, coordinating doctoral education. Her work spans migration policy, citizenship, and civil society dynamics.
Her research focuses on historical immigration controls and their relationship with welfare states, citizenship commodification in global governance, and transnational anti-gender movements. She leads a VR-funded project on corporate roles in the citizenship industry with Magdalena Bexell and contributes to debates on academic workplace practices.
Kalm supervises doctoral students including Jana Canavan and Paulina Vaughn, with prior advisory roles for Björn Östbring and Daniel Gustafsson. She sits on Lund University's Council for Ethics and Academic Freedom and the faculty's Ethics Council, emphasizing gender equality and diversity.
