Sara Cates

Sara Cates is an Associate Professor of Legal Skills at Quinnipiac University School of Law. Her teaching focuses on legal writing, research, and analysis. Prior to her academic career, she served as a Career Law Clerk for the U.S. District Court (District of Connecticut) and practiced law in diverse settings.

• Experience: 5-year clerkship with U.S. Magistrate Judge William I. Garfinkel; 2-year clerkship with U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Julie A. Manning
• Legal Practice: Staff Attorney at New Haven Legal Assistance Association (domestic violence cases); corporate litigation attorney at Shipman & Goodwin LLP

Her academic background includes a JD from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and an MA in the Teaching of English from Columbia University. She previously taught high school English for seven years and consulted with the Connecticut Writing Project.
