Sara Burkhardt

Sara Burkhardt is a Professor of Art Education and Art Didactics at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle since 2014. She has held leadership roles including Vice Rector for Science and Research (2014–2018) and currently serves as Dean of the Department of Art (since 2022). Her academic career includes a doctorate from the Braunschweig Academy of Fine Arts (2007) and prior roles as a Junior Professor at TU Dresden (2010–2014) and lecturer at the University of Flensburg (2006–2010). She co-edited the journal Kunst+Unterricht (2008–2020) and led the BurgMaterial research project (2019–2023).

Her teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary connections between art, cultural history, and contemporary societal challenges. She explores materiality in education, climate pedagogy, and digital learning strategies. Recent initiatives include co-conceptualizing the 2025 lecture series on Ideen und Diskurse and organizing exhibitions like FUTURES – Materials and Design of Tomorrow.
