About
Dr. Santhi Ganesh is a tenured Professor of Internal Medicine (Cardiology Division) and Human Genetics at the University of Michigan. She leads the Ganesh Lab, focusing on genetic basis of vascular diseases through computational and bench research, with extramural funding from NIH, AHA, and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. She directs the M-BRISC initiative on sex differences in cardiovascular disease and holds multiple center memberships including the Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center and Center for Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics.
- Education: BA (1993) and MD (1997) from Northwestern University
- Training: Internal Medicine Residency (University of Michigan), Cardiology Fellowship (Johns Hopkins), Postdoctoral Fellowships at NIH and Johns Hopkins Institute of Genetic Medicine
Research Interests span genetic mechanisms of fibromuscular dysplasia, spontaneous coronary artery dissection, and hypertensive disorders, integrating genomics, smooth muscle biology, and computational approaches. Her scientific contributions include discoveries in matricellular proteins, arterial integrity, and novel gene-phenotype relationships.
Scientific Honors include:
- David J. Pinsky Endowed Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine
- American Heart Association
- Doris Duke Charitable Foundation
- National Institutes of Health
Laboratory offers research opportunities in genetic analysis of vascular diseases, with focus on arterial dysplasia modeling and smooth muscle defects. Dr. Ganesh has mentored trainees across levels while maintaining extramural funding for projects related to genomic tools development and rare vascular disease registries.
